These Visible Things

The visible cannot bear the invisible.
Trees, houses, cities,
be they thousands of years old,
be they a million new faces,
one day they’ll all rot.
The food I eat this moment, the juice in this glass,
my eating, drinking flesh
belong to the visible
becoming invisible.
