SINCE AND THUS

It’s spring, two walruses did meet.

Two walruses? No fuss.

“My name is Since”, the first did greet.

“I’m”, said the second, “Thus”.

And Since at once observed it seemed,

and that it was no whim,

that Mr (walrus) Thus he deemed

as someone known to him.

“I say, might you that walrus be,

that lay long near here resting?”

And Thus to this: “Indeed, you see,

all winter long, no jesting!”

And with his eyes quite open wide

he looked at Since in stages,

feeling a surge of memory’s tide:

“Of course, good lord, such ages!

Why, you were lying on your tum

for months on that ice nearest!”

“Right next to you dear Thussisome!

how are you, brother dearest?

And how are Yet and Even, yes,

how is your little Whether?”

And it was time to hug and kiss,

till their tusks clicked together.

What to make of this poem? Since

it teems with wisdom, thus,

we see a walrus known as Since

was bro’ to walrus Thus.
