SONG OF TREPIDATION

How oft my own dear verse
how oft you’ve faltered
in my grief love ache
personal
how oft my own dear verse
how oft you’ve sauntered

Now with a military gait
my verse
do march

Infantry paced do sound oh words
trepidation arrayed
Of that twelfth hour

Tolling the sell-out bell tolls loud tells loud
Whose arms had swayed its motion
France so mellifluous, Albion so proud
such had had our devotion

I saw the tears in women’s eyes
I saw the fists clenched tight
Just wait a little little more
you’ll get to know us right

Thou power over all seas vast
that sea of our tears made
the fruits of wrath do ripen fast
hope’s anchor clamours as it’s weighed

Tolling the sell-out bell tolls loud tells loud
Whose arms had swayed its motion
France so mellifluous, Albion so proud
such had had our devotion

Oh France so dulcet sweet oh France
Marianne’s cap’s too late to seek
Your solar shield is cracked perchance
your assent shameful reeks

It’s night and in the trenches past
hear the earth’s blood pulse pound
for the world, Europe, every last
soldier feels qualms profound

Tolling the sell-out bell tolls loud tells loud
Whose arms had swayed its motion
France so mellifluous, Albion so proud
such had had our devotion

Our fields cry out Betrayal
Our forests boom out Shame
Our rivers seethe Betrayal
Our mountains thunder Shame

Be still now still the Rising Voice is uttered
Oh nation’s soul how you have stuttered

Ge Geni Genie of our land
upon your wings
so many many tears falling
Ge Geni Genie of our land
in the bad hours time brings
may your sword soon be tolling
