LONG-STRETCHED AVENUES

We walked down long-stretched avenues
and you spoke not at all,
while shadows sank into my words
and on your brow did fall.

I told you how I feel gloomy,
though young, seem youth to lack,
I've lost my sun and I don’t know
where to plead, to get it back.

I told you that you don’t love me,
that you never did make that call,
that this is our last walk together…
… and you spoke not at all.
