苏丹美艳无伦的女儿，

By the margin of the fountain,

那里白花花水珠飞溅。

Where the waters white are rippling.

年轻的奴隶在晚间，

Daily the young slave at twilight

天天伫立在喷泉边，

Stands beside the fountain's margin,

他脸色越来越苍白，

Where the waters white are rippling,

那里白花花水珠飞溅。

Daily grows he pale and paler.

一天晚上公主走近他，

There one evening moved the princess

问他的话很突兀：

Toward the slave with words swift-spoken

“我要知道你的名字，

Tell me, tell me what thy name is,

你的家乡和家族！”

Where thy home is, what thy lineage?

奴隶说：“我名叫穆罕默德，

Spake the youthful slave: My name is

也门是我的家乡，

Mahomet, I come from Yemen;

我属于阿斯拉部族，

And by birth I am an Asra,

族中人恋爱必死亡。”

One who dieth when he loves.
