Glory be to God for dappled things –

荣耀归于上帝：为斑驳的万象；

   For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow;

Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings;

   Landscape plotted and pieced – fold, fallow, and plough;

      And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.

各种行业的器物、用具和布置。

All things counter, original, spare, strange;

凡是出格、独特和稀奇的东西，

   Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)

只要是变化无常的，不知怎的，

      With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim;

总兼有一点快慢、甜酸和亮暗；

He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:

                                Praise him.

①本诗是霍普金斯“截尾十四行诗”中最著名的例子，也就是把十四行诗中的前八行缩成六行，韵式为abcabc；十四行诗的后六行缩成四行，韵式为defd（在其它诗中也可以有其它安排），最后再加一短行，短行的尾韵为f。
