WINTER SOLSTICE

Winter solstice,
ghost money burning in the street.
Firelight on the tree trunks,
the living turned to shadows
reaching for the dead.
The walls, the corners, the courtyards
where those they knew once lived.
Guilt and sorrow
unveil the other world,
dark and heavy as the great earth,
sharp as these ardent flames.
