As you pay the water bill, think of others

من يرضعون الغمامْ

those who are breastfed by clouds.

وانت تعود إلى البيت ، بيتك ، فكّر بغيرك

As you return home, your home, think of others

لا تنس شعب الخيامْ

do not trifle those who live in tents.

وأنت تنام و تحصي الكواكب ، فكّر بغيرك

As you sleep and count the stars, think of others

ثمّة من لم يجد حيّزاً للمنامْ

there are those who cannot find the place to sleep.

وأنت تحرّر نفسك بالاستعارات، فكّر بغيرك

As you free yourself with metaphors, think of others

من فقدوا حقّهم في الكلامْ

those who lost their right to speak.

وأنت تفكّر بالآخرين البعيدين ، فكّر بنفسك

As you think of distant others, think of yourself

قل: ليتني شمعةٌ في الظلامْ

say: I wish I were a candle in the dark.
