by which we live: joy, grief, delight—

        草菇

           straw mushrooms

                在肉眼的世界醒來；

                      rising into the visible world;

叢生的一枝黃

wisps of rabbitbrush are all

        覆蓋了將軍全部的夢；

           that remain of generals’ dreams;

                河水的分流匯入主流；

                      a branch of a river rejoins a river;

翻修一座房子提供庇護，

flip a house and it’s shelter,

        再翻修一次，櫥櫃

           flip it again and cabinets

                打開，紅酒杯注滿，狗兒歡叫，

                      open, wine is poured, dogs yap,

人們有說有笑；

people joke and laugh;

        沙丘鶴盤旋

           sandhill cranes swirl

                降落在一片玉米地；

                      and descend into a cornfield;

我們是彼此的安培；

we ampere each other;

        巴士停靠：一個孩童下車，

           a bus stops: a child gets off,

                走在紅土塊的路上：

                      starts waking on a red-clod road:

視線所及無一物

nothing in sight

        從四面八方；

           in all directions;

                玫瑰之火在皮膚下點燃，

                      a rose flame under our skin,

蜂鳥的翅膀嗡鳴；
