The rock face is a drum
石壁是鼓
these fallen leaves cymbals
落葉是鐃鈸
Halfway to the mountain
行人佇停半山腰
the traveler stops, hearing water
傾聽流水的
play violin,
提琴音

asks guidance from the jostling clouds,
問嬉戲的雲霧
from the steep and rugged road
崎嶇的山路
The blue mountain seems so close
藍山似近實不近
yet more green hills
綠山一座座
still ahead
橫臥在眼前

Maybe shout to a distant figure
問遠處的人影
but wind says ask the forest of bamboo
風說不如問竹林
Instead of smudged directions
問抄來的地址
rain says the waterfall
雨說不如問瀑布
may know where
最終要問誰

Birds sing eagerly
鳥啼殷勤
while someplace on these wild slopes
那人野放在山裡
a man lives like a tea plant,
彷彿茶樹散步
his small wooden cottage
一幢小木屋
half-hidden in leaves
叢林半遮掩

Green falls and rises,
綠隨山勢高低
then dogbarks,
狗吠聲起
and in the drizzle
細雨中他搖搖頭
tea-man shakes his head
沒有茶賣
not yet
讓茶樹繼續等待
