Fine weather, sunlight pouring,

天氣真好，陽光燦爛

I head downstairs for a walk to prove it.

But in my heart’s a knot of shadows,

neither a quilt to air,

不能像被子一樣拿出去晾曬

nor that car at the corner

不能像那輛開過去的汽車

vanishing as it turns.

三拐兩拐就不見了

Unlike the sun’s shade,

這不是陽光下的陰影

it dwells in its own dark core,

就像黑暗的中心

dense yet empty.

某種密實而中空的東西

If the sun’s heart’s bright,

就像光明的中心是太陽

this is the yolk of darkness.

它是黑暗的中心

My feet stand in ashes,

踩著腳下灰淡的影子

the shadow in my heart

我心中的影子卻縮回去了

curled like a rat

就像老鼠進洞

in winter’s burrow.

蟄伏在我裏面

When it wakes

它展開的時候將是一個黑夜

black night unfurls,

黝黑的太陽升起，不可阻擋

its dark sun relentless, ascendant.
