又不影射死亡

without meaning the death

of somebody loved

甚至樹木

or even the death

今天在市場上

Today in the market

我聽見一位母親說

I heard a mother say

看那些南瓜啊，

Look at the pumpkins, 

秋天終於來了！

it’s finally autumn! 

而孩子並沒有想到

And the child didn’t think

注定在她之前的

of the death of her mother

母親的死，

which is due before her own

只是品嘗著她笨拙舌尖上

but tasted the sound

詞語的聲響：

of the words on her clumsy tongue: 

南瓜；秋天。

pumpkin; autumn.

讓眼睛擴張吧

Let the eye enlarge

憑它注視的一切。

with all it beholds. 

我要慶祝

I want to celebrate

顏色，一片紅葉如何

color, how one red leaf

閃爍，像一根

flickers like a match

伸向枯枝的火柴，

held to a dry branch, 

整個世界燃起

and the whole world goes up

橙色和金黃。

in orange and gold.
