I want to mention
我想說說
summer ending
夏日的結束
without meaning the death
又不影射死亡
of somebody loved
某個被愛之人

or even the death
甚至樹木
of the trees.

Today in the market
今天在市場上
I heard a mother say
我聽見一位母親說

Look at the pumpkins, 
看那些南瓜啊,
it’s finally autumn! 
秋天終於來了!
And the child didn’t think
而孩子並沒有想到
of the death of her mother
注定在她之前的

which is due before her own
母親的死,
but tasted the sound
只是品嘗著她笨拙舌尖上
of the words on her clumsy tongue: 
詞語的聲響:
pumpkin; autumn.
南瓜;秋天。

Let the eye enlarge
讓眼睛擴張吧
with all it beholds. 
憑它注視的一切。
I want to celebrate
我要慶祝
color, how one red leaf
顏色,一片紅葉如何

flickers like a match
閃爍,像一根
held to a dry branch, 
伸向枯枝的火柴,
and the whole world goes up
整個世界燃起
in orange and gold.
橙色和金黃。
