我曾走过许多路途，

	I have walked along many roads,

我曾开辟许多小径，

and opened paths through brush,

我曾穿越一百个大海

I have sailed over a hundred seas

在一百个河湾留停。

and tied up on a hundred shores.

我所经行处

	Everywhere I’ve gone I’ve seen

悲伤如马车排成长队，

excursions of sadness,

人们傲慢，悔恨

angry and melancholy

醉倒于黑色的阴影，

drunkards with black shadows,

乏味的学究

	and academics in offstage clothes

他们乜斜，沉默，自认

who watch, say nothing, and think

无所不知，所以不喝

they know, because they do not drink wine

小酒馆的土酒。

in the ordinary bars.

可怜的人们在地面走动

	Evil men who walk around

散发腐败的气息……

polluting the earth. . .

而我所经行处

	And everywhere I’ve been I’ve seen

如可能，人们就跳舞，嬉戏

men who dance and play,

并在他们

when they can, and work

巴掌大的土地上劳作。

the few inches of ground they have.

如在某处落脚，

	If they turn up somewhere,

从不会追问来路。

they never ask where they are.

当他们行走，

When they take trips, they ride

或骑在驴背上旅行，

on the backs of old mules.

从不知匆忙，

	They don’t know how to hurry,

甚至，在欢庆的日子。

not even on holidays.

如果有酒，就喝酒；

They drink wine, if there is some,

如果没有，新鲜的水亦足够。

if not, cool water.

这些善人们生活，

	These men are the good ones,

劳作，迁徙，做梦，

who love, work, walk and dream.

在某个普通的日子里，

And on a day no different from the rest

回到泥土中安歇。

they lie down beneath the earth.
