同时以超过一个角度看进去——
looked into from more than one angle at once—


能与门廊看对眼,
eye to eye with thedoorway,
直到发根,
down at the hair,
向上到你沾着泥巴的双脚。
up at your owndusty feet.

我走进时,
“This is your house,”
我的小鸟之心对我的蟋蟀之心说。
said my bird heart to my heart of the cricket,

and I entered.

幸福者看到的只有幸福,

活着的只看到活的,
The happy see only happiness,
年少的只看到年少的,
the living see only life,

the young see only the young,
正如恋人们相信

他们醒来,身边总是一个沉溺爱河中的人。
as lovers believe

they wake always beside one also in love.

无论我翻页翻得多勤,

我总是以那本书
However often I turned its pages,
最后两行结束:
I kept ending up

as the same two sentences of the book:
有人的生命是:在。别的是:无在。

The being of some is: to be. Of others: to be without.
然后我仰身后躺,睡在瑞典语中。

Then I fell back asleep, in Swedish.

一只觅草的羊,不令人印象深刻,是因为有山,

A sheep grazing is unimpressed by the mountain

对还没发生的事

The grief
一扇从里面关上的门。
of what hasn’t yet happened—


草的重量
a door closed from inside.
在隔开

一只蚂蚁五条腿的沉默
The weight of the grass
从中穿行而过
dividing

an ant’s five-legged silence

什么是毛巾,什么是水,

变化着,

尽管我们三者,
What is the towel, what is the water,
只有毛巾可以在阳光中头朝下。
changes,

though of we three,

only the towel can be held upside down in the sun.


“我是曾经。”

话说得既无自怜又非赞扬。

这种尊严我们给予仓枭、
“I was once.”
自我、牡蛎。
Said not in self-pity or praise.
This dignity we allow barn owl,
ego, oyster.
