Open the door

河水就在門外

right onto the canal,

墻粉

the old wall’s whitewash

簌簌地

light as snow

掉進水裏

drifting to the water.

巷尾的拱橋

The bridge arched at the end of the alley

比去年

seems lower

更矮

than last year.

幾處白露臺

A few white balconies

仍栽滿輕艷的盆花

still speckled bright with flowers.

墨綠色的木百葉窗

The ink-green shutters

半開半閉

half open, half closed

是午睡的時候

for the siesta.

一艘貢都拉搖過

A gondola rocks by

沒有歌

without song

他們自玻璃廠歸來

They come back from the glass factory,

說起

saying how transparent

草莓紅的玻璃透明

the strawberry-red glass,

風信子藍的薄

how thin the hyacinth blue.

我衹說

I only say

我想我看見

I think I see

威尼西亞

Venezia,

一點一點地

little by little,

變作一片玻璃

becoming a sheet of glass.
